Hypnosis has evoloved into many different forms over the years. One such form is self-hypnosis – the process of putting ones self into a hypnotic trance to bring about about some kind of improvement. This page aims to explore some of the self-hypnosis techniques.
Audio Recordings
Self-hypnosis is also known as auto-hypnosis. The first way a person can hypnotize them-selves is the use of audio recordings. This is a simple and effective way to self-hypnotize as no preparation is required, one only needs to press play on their ipods before falling asleep. Audio recordings can also be used while awake however they are exponentially more effective when sleeping as the psychological ‘barriers’ between the conscious and unconscious (commonly known as the subconscious) mind are lowered.
Another advantage of audio-recordings is that they are relatively cheap when compared to other self-hypnosis techniques, thus making it the common mans choice. For example, a self hypnosis training will cost at least (and nearly always more than) $20, whereas a audio recording can cost as little as $5 from itunes.
How to self-hypnotize with audio recordings

2) Load the audio recording onto your ipod/MP3 player.
3) Relax and get self-hypnotized.
Autogenic Training
The second self-hypnosis technique is known as autogenic training. This is a calming technique pioneered by Johannes Schultz – a German psychiatrist. This self-hypnosis technique should be carried out three to four times a day to maximize effectiveness, once after waking up, another after lunch (it helps digestion too) and finally before going to bed.
To preform the autogenic training technique begin by adopting a relaxed position, ideally lying down or sitting in a reclined position. Spend about 15 min selecting parts of the body and actualizing how calm they are. This is done by thinking thoughts such as: ” My feet are warm” or ” My arms are heavy”. By going around the body, one relaxes themselves in a process known to hypnotists as ‘deepening’. After the entire body is relaxed one can put them selves in a hypnotic trans by simply counting down from five.
The obvious advantage of this technique is that it doesn’t cost any money to do. This means that if you adopted it but don’t have the time or dedication to make it work you won’t have lost any money.
On the other hand this self-hypnosis technique is limited to improving only some conditions in humans. It has been documented to help adrenaline imbalances, digestion, high blood pressure and a manic heart rate. While these are prevalent problems in modern day society, few other applications have been found for autogenic training.

Autosuggestion
The next self-hypnosis technique is known as autosuggestion. This technique originates from France in the late 1800s. The creator was a pharmacist named Emile Coue, who is also credited by may as discoverer of the placebo effect.
Autosuggestion is one of the most simple self-hypnosis techniques, all one needs to do is repeat any phrase several times and it will be absorbed into their un(sub) conscious. In order for this technique to work it must be done ritualistically at the start and end of each day. For example if a person wanted to cure low self-confidence they would repeat to them-selves: “I am confident”. This self hypnosis technique is far more effective for children than it is for adults and so it has been suggested that auto suggestion is is tied in with learning and that children don’t tend to have strong will power.
Unlike autogenic training, this self-hypnosis technique gas been used to help a wide array of afflictions including; kidney problems, diabetes, memory loss, stammering, atrophy and migraines. However, similar to autogenic hypnosis this technique costs nothing to practice and evidence has been put forward which suggests that it has similar success rates to hypnotherapy. Making this the economical choice.
